The results have far surpassed my expectations.  I have lost 35 pounds and 40% of my body fat in just eight weeks.  I haven’t weighed this little in over 25 years.  Most of it has come off my midriff—the bane of men and, according to recent medical studies, a harbinger of heart disease and other health problems.  I feel like my youthful self, more agile and vigorous.  I can’t wait to see what happens to my marathon times.  The only downside:  I need new clothes—but they look great.

More importantly, I have reset the way my body processes food and become much more aware of what I am eating and how my body reacts.  Like many of us, I had slid into a very carbohydrate heavy diet that led to gradual weight gain.  I will never let my body get out of balance again by larding on the carbs and giving short shrift to protein.

I could not have achieved these results without the Ideal Protein Program.  The professional guidance and advice that our coach Toni Hoff gave us made this dramatic weight loss not only possible but also safe and healthy.  (Thanks to her help, I even managed to stick to the program while traveling on business.)

My story. I have struggled with weight since I can remember. I think Middle School is probably when I really noticed that I was well call it ‘chubby’. In high school I was active, I played softball and was on color guard but I still always seemed to be overweight. After high school I started college and I gained about 30 pounds and for most of my adult life, no matter how many diets I tried I always weighed 232.

After getting married I somehow ended up putting on additional weight. We tried to have a baby for 2 years and lost two babies during that time, I learned I was pregnant again in November 2009, this baby stayed and at my first doctors appointment I was weighing 267 pounds. The day I gave birth I weighed 298 pounds, I hated the way I looked and the way I felt. All throughout my pregnancy I had terrible back pain and my knees kept giving out causing me to fall. My poor body had too much weight. I made a vow that when this baby was born I would make a change. I didn’t want to have her grow up with a mother who was over weight and unable to keep up. I want to take her hiking and on walks, I want to be able to play soccer with her if that is what she wants to do and at 298 pounds, and being totally out of shape this was not an option.

I talked to Toni and Richard about the program Ideal Protein, I had done other diets multiple times, counted points till I was blue in the face and had only ever lost maybe 15 pounds at most, I explained to Toni and Richard that I wasn’t interested in something that I couldn’t stick with, I knew it would likely take me a year to get the weight off and I didn’t want to start and stop. I started Ideal Protein on 1/1/2010, Toni gave me a verity of foods for my first week, some were not anything I cared to finish eating or order again but most were delicious, I came back after one week and had lost 8 pounds.

To date I have lost a total of 37.4 pounds, since I started the program. I feel great, not to mention that I have lost over 15inches. If you think of that, its like a foot + of person. That is where I really notice the different. The little things in life are so much easier when you fit. At work in meetings I can sit in any seat and know that I will fit. I have a long way to go to get to my goal weight but I am confidant that with the weekly support and delicious food I will get there before my daughters 1st birthday.

MCThe only time I was ever slim was when I lost a crazy amount of weight following my father’s death when I was 23. At that point I was about 125lbs and 5’9”. In my early 30’s I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism and that’s when all the weight came. I never seemed to lose the weight following the birth of my children. I would plateau at 170 and hold. I was 194 at my heaviest and I was miserable.

I happened to overhear a co-worker mention that another co-worker was on this crazy diet that got her really slim. I’m not into diets. I’ve never been on one and from people I know that have dieted their whole lives and not been successful; I had zero faith in diets. That was until I saw ‘before’ pictures of another co-worker that had been through the diet and had been in the maintenance stage for a couple of months. I couldn’t believe how amazing she looked! In fact I couldn’t believe that the ‘before’ picture was really her. I asked her how long it took her to get where she was and she said a few months. I thought that was very motivating. The fact that she got there pretty quickly and had maintained it sealed the deal for me.

I started the Ideal Protein diet on February 10th, 2010 when I was at my heaviest (194) and wearing a tight size 16. As of August 5, 2010 I’m in my third week of stage 4, I am holding at 153 and a loose size 8 in skinny jeans. I mention the clothing size because that is what REALLY mattered the most to me. I wanted to fit into my clothes and look good; no puckering buttons (if I could even button up), tops that fit they way they should, pants that didn’t have an elastic waist band, etc.). I am wearing fitted clothing and not bulging out anywhere! I would always wear loose fitting tops to mask my chest and waistline and now I can wear tight fitting stretch shirts and not look vulgar. I took off my cardigan at work one day and a male co-worker asked if I had been training because my upper arms looked so ‘cut’ as he said. I got a little embarrassed because I have NEVER had anyone pay me decent compliments about my body, especially my upper arms.

I’m not into exercising. I don’t like to run. I can’t afford to join a gym. I did however receive a Wii Fit for the holidays and decided this would be a perfect complement to the diet. I hula hooped every other night and did the really low impact step exercise while I watching tv or a movie in the evening. That was my rule. No sitting until 30 minutes of some sort of cardio activity was complete. That really made things tighten up fast! You feel so energized and sleep so much better. You wake up in the mornings having lost weight or inches or in some intervals BOTH!

People are stunned that haven’t seen me in a while. They all ask me what I did and I always laugh when I tell them because it was so incredibly easy and fast. I refer people all the time. The ones that actually pursue their goal & have met it, say exactly the same thing I do, “I wish I would have done this sooner and I couldn’t imagine being that heavy again”. It’s literally the ‘Happy Diet’.  The best advice I could give is don’t be a slave to the scale, DO NOT CHEAT because you are only cheating yourself and wasting your time, be experimental with the food and food options and keep the end result goal ALWAYS in your mind. You’ll reach it sooner than you expected and you’ll be singing praises as well. We don’t make this stuff up. It’s for real!

The extra added bonus is having Toni as a health coach. She is so on top of things and quick to suggest food alternatives as well as having great recipes to pass on. She has been completely available to me and even been flexible with my schedule for appointments. She is completely honest and real about helping you attain your goal and won’t hesitate to call you out if  you ‘cheat’ yet is ready to throw out praise and be extremely encouraging every step of the way. I can’t begin to thank her enough for being my Sherpa of weight loss and guiding me into a lifestyle that I am truly proud to live!
